My Night Routine

So, if you’ve read any of my blog post you know I love a good routine. They are the gossip y’all. I live by them. They really keep me focused and on track. I'm definitely the type of person that needs structure. After working all day, the majority of that work being cleaning, the last thing, literally the very last thing I want to see before I’m ready to go to bed, is to look around and see things outta place or left out. To simply put it I don’t want to see a mess. If I had it my way nothing would get touched or moved after I clean it or put it away. Man, that would be the life! Clean it once & never have to do it again LOL. Or it would great to be like that lady from bewitched and just twinkle my nose or snap my finger and everything is all nice, clean and organized. From this blog to God's ears right? However, I’m not a complete pyscho. I know a home is to be lived in it's not for show. At least my home isn’t. I also don’t think it would go over very well if I asked my wife to chill in one area of a room while she’s home from a long day of work. I know things will get touched. I know things will get moved around. But just like in the morning I have an evening routine. It keeps me sane and my house put together for the most part.

My evening routine:

5:00pm

Its time to look over my planner. I Like to make sure that everything I needed to get done that day got done on that day. I like to check all my boxes y’all. If by chance I don't get something done I'll take 30 min to either get it done or to at the very least start it. Hopefully, I can get it all done but if I cant I’ll add it to my list of to do’s for the next day. I only give myself 30 mins for this.

5:30 pm

My wife is headed home anywhere between 5:10 pm to 5:30 pm on most days so on the nights I do cook, which have been Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays since its football season. I know I need to start dinner no later than 5:30 pm. Now, these cooking days do switch up vis season & sports in my household. Since its football season, my wife likes to eat while she watched the games on Sunday afternoon leading into the evening. I make a verity of finger food. Which works great for clapping & disagreeing with refs calls. Traditionally Sundays, meaning non-football season I like to cook a bigger more difficult meal. Making a big meal on Sunday ensures I have leftovers on Monday. One less thing on an already busy Monday I won't have to deal with. In any case, I normally if I start prepping for dinner at 5:30 pm. If that’s started on time dinner is in the oven or stovetop no later than 6 pm.

6:00 pm

While dinners cooking I always give the common areas of our home a quick look over. Normally it isn’t bad at all, however, honestly, the majority of the time its the little things. Like the shoes not being paired, organized, and or lined up neatly on the shoe rack by the door. We are a no shoes home. Or Toni, my wife left her gym bag by the front door instead of in the closet. Or there are magazines and envelopes on the bed from me opening & reading the mail after I checked the mailbox earlier in the day that needs to be either thrown away or filed. Or maybe there’s trash or rappers left on the countertop in the kitchen from the snack or lunch I had. This is the time to get it all picked up and put away. Normally this is quick 15 -20 min tops.

7:00 pm or 7:30 pm

It’s dinner time! Depending on what I’m cooking we eat dinner at 7:00 pm or 7:30 pm. I try to stay pretty consistent at the time my wife and I eat. I do have a small afternoon snack around 3:30 pm so I’m pretty much jonesing for food by now. This is the time my wife & I connect and talk about our days, what’s going on etc. For the most part, we’re not on phone or social media. Sometimes we’ll watch a program/ show. We’re currently hooked on the Wu-Tang show on Hulu. It’s our Wednesday night jam. I highly recommend it. But we both take this opportunity for us to connect.

9:45 pm

Dinner is well over. Now it’s time to shut down our house. I walk around each room & close all the blinds/ windows. Make sure the front door is locked and secure. It always is I’m just in the habit of checking it. Time to rap up and put away any leftover food. Whip down the stovetop if that’s where I cooked on it. I’ll also whip down the countertops. If I know I’m going out of the house the next day I’ll pick out my outfit. I’ll then I’ll rap up and or put my hair in a bonnet. Then I’m in my PJs. My wife & I normally will chill in bed with the TV on or reading until we fall asleep.

So, there you have it guys. My evening routine. Again, it’s the little things that you can do to keep up your home. By taking these little steps it makes a real big difference I my personal opinion. It honestly really helps me. When I skip a day you can really tell by the look of my home. I’m human but I really make an effort to stay on top of things and do this routine Monday through Friday. On the weekend we aren’t home as much plus everyone needs a day off LOL. Anywho I hope I’ve been able to help y’all get or make a routine of your own. Until next time guys!

I definitely understand loving a routine. I like things to orderly and it drives my husband crazy. I am glad that I am not the only one lol.
